2021 was another record year for investments into UK life science companies.
With a continued focus on tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a remarkable increase in both the size and number of private financings compared to previous years. According to Biotechgate data for 2021, a record USD 3,138 million in venture capital was invested into the booming British biotech industry through 83 financing rounds. In the first half of 2021 alone, the value of private equity investments for biotechs exceeded the annual total for 2020, with Oxford Nanopore securing a major venture deal worth USD 271 million.
